Comprehension — Revision Summary
You read an unseen passage and answer questions (factual, inference, vocabulary, summary). ~25% of the paper.
Strategy
- Read the passage twice — once for the gist, once underlining key points.
- Read the questions, then locate answers in the text.
- Answer in your own words where asked; quote only if told to.
- Frame full sentences; lift the relevant idea, don't copy whole lines.
Question types
- Factual — answer directly from the text.
- Inference — "Why…?" / "What does this suggest…?" — read between the lines.
- Vocabulary — give a synonym/meaning as used in the passage.
- Summary — write the gist of given paragraphs in a set word limit, in continuous prose; no examples or your own opinion.
Tips
- Stick to the word limit in the summary (marks deducted otherwise).
- Keep tense consistent; check grammar — language marks apply here too.
